Diablo II: Resurrected is preparing to send players into the Terror Zone. The game’s most recent PTR patch, 2.5, has gone live with the new feature, which is “experimental” and needing testers to try out this intended alternative to simply farming over and over to reach level 99.
This is near endgame content, and Terror Zones are described as follows:
“When playing a Terror Zone-enabled game, every hour, the armies of the Burning Hells will focus their demonic might on specific zones, terrorizing them. The monsters in these zones will be at least two levels higher than your current level or their original level, up to a maximum per difficulty. The experience received and the loot dropped by killing a terrorized monster will be based on this new level. In addition, terrorized monsters will also grant additional experience points.”
Enabling Terror Zones is entirely optional, so you don’t have to add the extra difficulty or surprises if you don’t want to, but the devs want to open up the journey to level 99 to more players, making getting there more accessible without necessarily having to keep going after Diablo, Baal, or Nihlathak. This also brings some more variety into these options, as these terrorized monsters have different difficulties, based on the level of the creator of the game.
If you enter a Terrorized game, you’ll see a message via a chat message letting you know which areas are affected. There will also be an audio cue when you enter an affected zone and see terrorized status next to monsters’ names. When time comes for the terrorized zones to change, this will get updated. Potential zones are located throughout all five acts on the PTR build.
The rest of the current PCR build is focused on gameplay and quality-of-life issues for the team to get feedback on and data. There have also been localization changes and some specific PC-specific fixes.
