Season 4 is such a significant overhaul for Diablo 4 that Blizzard has pivoted away from its typical seasonal mechanic to go all in on the gameplay changes that are sure to shake up the game’s itemization and gameplay across the board.
Aptly titled ‘Loot Reborn,’ Diablo 4 Season 4 makes enough changes to the game’s item hunt and progression to warrant at least another look, if not more, from players who may have found the previous status quo lacking.
We covered some of the more granular details in a previous report, but the goal of the changes to itemization in Season 4 is to make items simpler to evaluate, with fewer, more powerful affixes, higher quality (but fewer) drops, and a shift of the complexity and customization of items towards the game’s new Tempering and Masterworking crafting systems.
Blizzard wants players to spend more time having fun killing enemies and less time messing around in their inventory screens.
Helltides received some significant love in Loot Reborn as well. They’ll now be available in all World Tiers, though their overall challenge will scale up at each Tier as one might expect. As players fight enemies in Helltides, the event’s Threat Level will increase, throwing many more enemies, more often at players and culminating in a face off against what Blizzard is calling a ‘Hellborn.’
There’s a ton more to digest on Season 4, including The Pit, an adaptation of Diablo 3’s Greater Rifts. Read all the details here.
Diablo 4 Season 4: Loot Reborn drops May 14.
