Preparing to launch your own universe

The standalone Dual Universe client, myDU, will launch this Monday, August 19, and Novaquark has put out a series of answers on the official forum to its biggest questions.

The myDU client will be sold separately from the main one, retailing at $34.99 USD. It won’t require a subscription, though the standard MMO edition will.

If you want to run your own ‘universe’ of Dual Universe, that’s also entirely possible through the myDU server stack. The installer for the server stack won’t require any in-depth technical knowledge, so players can bring friends they trust onto a local server.

While there’s no specifics about the requirements, the team says, “A decent gaming rig will be enough to run the server locally for a handful of players at the same time. For bigger instances, our best estimate is that the server will hold between 10 and 25 connected players per core depending on what they do in-game.” However, the team also outlines that if you’re going to run it publicly, they recommend getting a domain name (as is common for public servers).

Novaquark also talks about what’ll be available between the two games. For example, you can export your core blueprints from the primary MMO servers through the “mesh exporter,” but myDU blueprints won’t be usable on the MMO servers. There’ll also be limited C# modding capabilities available, for those who want to get hands-on.

Plus, there’ll be PvP toggling through the back end, plus other options in a similar vein to other sandbox games.
