If you’re looking forward to playing Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion when it releases on June 4th, you should be careful online, since full spoilers are circulating after an error that made it available early temporarily.
The Destiny subreddit tells much of what happened. Apparently, Sony accidentally released the full campaign and season content when they updated and people were able to play through it. Sony and Bungie were able to take the servers down, but for a while, some people were apparently still able to play. Given that the campaign and story details for a highly anticipated expansion that ends the 10-year Light and Darkness Saga was available for people to play, boy did they play it.
We won't be revealing any spoilers here, but this situation is major. User Soracaz summed up the magnitude of the leaks that are now floating around due to Sony’s apparent update error.
“This leak tops everything else. Raid gear, raid mechanics, HUGE STORY SPOILERS. LIKE... MASSIVE. If you don't like leaks/spoilers tomorrow is gonna be hell. Get off the internet. It's so bad that I'd be surprised if they didn't just release TFC early to avoid people getting spoiled.”
Reportedly, the same happened with the Elden Ring expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, so if you want to avoid spoilers for that one too, be on extra high alert online.
Sony’s latest State of Play is today, scheduled for 3pm PT. While this is set to focus on PS5 and PS VR2 titles, we’ll have to see if or how Sony or Bungie respond.

The Final Shape has much riding on it for Bungie. The company had significant layoffs last fall (like the rest of the industry) and admitted that they missed their revenue targets by 45%. This came as they delayed The Final Shape to its June 4th release date and announced plans to support that extra time with additional bridge content.
