With the release of Destiny 2 The Final Shape right around the corner, Bungie has released the first part in a series of videos titled Becoming Legend.

This first ViDoc, as they call it, brings us behind the scenes of the creation of Destiny 2 The Final Shape, explaining the detail and emotion put into the scripts, fight, landscapes, and more. The different directors, producers, artists, and developers explain who The Witness is within Destiny 2 and what this entity's end goal truly is; Salvation. It will be our job as the Guardian to stop The Witness from getting the light needed to complete their evil quest.

Within this first video, they call Confronting Oblivion, those who made Destiny what it is today explain that in order to make things feel surreal within the game, they needed to bring familiar things out of context, meaning the introduction of something that we as players wouldn’t suspect would be lurking around the corner.

The idea was to make things ambitious, vast, dangerous, and surreal to those who embarked on the journey, and to combine all of those things into one cohesive playthrough. Bungie needed to play with the scale of the game, add unexpected things, and work on repetition. Through this process, the team started messing around with how the terrain would look and feel, using body parts such as hands rather than tree limbs or pillars holding up the highway. This gave a surreal and uneasy feeling that they had been looking for.

Some of the new enemies we will encounter, known as the Dread, are a product of The Witness experimenting with the light, and morphing it into something sinister from within The Pale Heart. The Dread utilize a new language, known as the Pyramid Language, and every word and phrase used by the units is completely translatable. Players who want to delve deep within the lore and world of Destiny 2 can fully translate what the Dread are saying if they want to.

The Husks are an entirely new enemy within Destiny 2, who wield huge weapons and are supposed to look and feel like nothing we have seen before. The sounds that the Husks make in-game are real-life sounds of slapping jello and water-filled bladders, giving them a unique and interesting sound from the real world.

This is just the first in a series of videos giving more insight as to what we can expect when Destiny 2 The Final Shape goes live. The next video in the series titled “Shaping the Magic” will be available on May 24th at 9 AM PT
