According to a report provided in an announcement directly from CD Projekt Red’s investors site, sales data collected from physical and digital distributors puts estimated sales of Cyberpunk 2077 at over 13 million copies sold as of December 20th.
The sales data includes all figures, less the refund requests emailed directly to the company by way of the “Help Me Refund” campaign. The numbers are still relatively good, considering the substantial backlash the game has received for admitted managerial missteps on the marketing and release of Cyberpunk 2077.
The purpose of the disclosure was also provided in the announcement:
The Management Board has decided to disclose the above information in the form of a current report due to its potential impact on investment-related decisions.
Based on the timing and verbiage of the report, the information provided could be to simply pacify investors that may have been caught up in the tempest of damaging media coverage, calls for lawsuits, and have noticed the loss of rapport with the studios’ customers. Still, the numbers may be surprising to many, considering the game is nearly unplayable on the previous generations, first gen consoles.
