Desert Treasure II: The Fallen Empire is now live in Old School RuneScape. After the team revealed back in December that Desert Treasure would continue in a big way this year, the new quest–the biggest to date–is here.

Earlier in the year, the team released Secrets of the North, which lets you solve a murder mystery in a brand new Master Quest that continued the Mahjarrat storyline that began back in 2001. That addition came back in January, and it was described as a prequel to the return of Desert Treasure. Yet, even if you played through that one, you should prepare to be surprised, according to Mod Ed:

“This is a story we've been wanting to tell for years, and it's only through your tremendous support for our past storytelling efforts that we're now finally able to do so. We've made sure to honour the deep legacy of the Mahjarrat storyline, whilst also pushing the boundaries for storytelling in Old School like never before. Whatever you might be expecting, you're probably not ready for this. This is the one where everything changes.”

Since the quest is new, the team will not be posting anything with spoilers this week to give everyone a chance to get in and try things out. What we do know is that there will be four bosses to take on, a number of additional challenges, and that this quest will take you all over Gielinor.

Given all of the promises about how challenging and how big the new questline is, there’s also advice to savor it. And to not come in for the first time on a Hardcore account.

“We’re not just building hype here: Desert Treasure II is a dangerous quest. Everything from the bosses we’ve spoken so much about to the environment itself can and will kill you.”

No one is expecting everyone to be careful, so we'll have to see how it all shakes out. You can find out more details and the requirements to take on Desert Treasure II over at Old School RuneScape.
