Death Cost Reduction Now in RuneScape, Along With Some Special Loot Opportunities

It’s time for death and taxes in RuneScape. This time, in a good way, though, since the death cost reduction is now in place. The Raptor’s Rampage event also begins, along with a special members only loot event. Jagex has also tweaked the recently-added Dive, and fixed some bugs.

The biggest addition here is the overhauled def cost system. The reductions will be extremely significant, with An estimated 80% cost reduction compared to what it was before, with some actually saving more than that. There is a tariff to help offset the loss of all the death cost coin, but in the end, you’ll generally come out on top. Tariff will come in the form of a 2% gold charge on Grand Exchange sales. This should help fill the gap, because over 60% of the gold drain in the game was coming through death costs.

It's January and why not start the year with some extra goodies? There’s an event starting, Raptor’s Rampage. This event runs through January 22nd and Raptor is now at War’s Retreat. You can activate a special buff once a day, and when it's running, your next boss kill will score you three rolls on the loot table.  Target the boss that you really want rare loot from, but if you try something that's not going to work, you won't lose your buff for that day. Raids, for example, get a flat percentage bonus and won’t consume the buff.

There's also a members-only event for extra loot as well. This one runs through January 31st, and every day you log in, or every hour you play, you'll get a pirate key, with up to 12 to earn per week. You'll be able to exchange your keys for random loot.

Last week, the team added the ability to Dive but some figured out that you could place it on your action bar and use it even though you hadn't unlocked it. They've since fixed this and other issues.
