DC Universe Online has had a quiet 2024 thus far, but today the team at Dimensional Ink laid the ground work for what's to come here in the second quarter of the year. Today's news comes a little over a month since Dimensional Ink was reportedly hit with layoffs, with the report noting that the studio "lost several senior staff."
In the producer's letter from new Lead Producer Kenn "Kendricke" White, the developers pulled the veil back a bit on what the team has been working on and what's to come for the superhero MMO. Firstly, a native PlayStation 5 client is now available for players on Sony's console, promising that an Xbox Series S|X client is on the way, though initially it looked like both would launch in Q1.
The native PS5 client gives DCUO players PS5 specific features to take advantage of, as well as performance uplifts over the PlayStation 4. There is a trailer to go alongside the announcement, though it stops short of actually saying what some of those PS5 native features are.
White then turned his attention to what's happened in 2024 and what's to come. While there were plenty of holiday events to cover, as well as Episode 46 to take part in, it felt relatively quiet overall. However, the team has turned their "full attention" to the next major update, Episode 47.
"Brainiac has returned! Seeking to learn from his previous defeats, he's launching an all-out assault on the Earth's ultimate symbols of hope and resistance, the Hall of Justice and the Hall of Doom. With the world hanging in the balance, the Justice League and Lex Luthor's Secret Society are forced to unite their powers and resources to thwart Brainiac's ingeniously malevolent plan."
Additionally, a new base, Sunstone Fortress, was teased. The new base, which is, erm, based on Superman's Fortress of Solitude, will launch in April in time for the Superman anniversary, and brings with it a new layout, an outdoor area, and a "one of a kind view."
White wraps up the post with a look at the full roadmap heading into 2025, including a new ally slated for Q4 2024, and Xbox Series S|X client slated for Q2 2024. No new episode is set for Q4 2024, however, with Episode 48 coming Q3 and then 49 set for Q1 2025.
