In a post on the PlayStation Blog today, DC Universe Online's upcoming 40th Episode, World of Flashpoint, was detailed. The next update for DCUO will be hitting platforms on April 15th.

As we've previously reported, the upcoming 'World of Flashpoint' will be releasing free for everyone as the team at Dimensional Ink are looking at providing an environment where "content is not gated by purchase." The upcoming expansion's free announcement was met with a little pushback from those who pay for the premium membership, wondering what perks paying for the game will bring them if one of the major ones, content releases included, are starting to be given away regardless. The DCUO developer recognizes this, and says that if they continue this trend that this will be "accounted for" in their membership perks in th future.

On today's blog the DCUO detailed the upcoming expansion a bit more fully, exploring "time-twisted versions" of DC characters, such as a Batman that leans closer to his violent side, or seeing Atlantis and Themyscira are war with "Emperor Aquaman, Flashpoint Wonder Woman, and more desperately fighting in a falling world."

"In this expansion, Flashpoint Batman (Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s father), Emperor Aquaman, Flashpoint Wonder Woman, and more are desperately fighting in a falling world. Atlantis and Themyscira are at war. A violent Batman embraces his darker side, seeking vengeance for his family while protecting a somehow-even-more-crime-riddled Flashpoint Gotham City. "

Inspired by DC Comics' Flashpoint storyline, players will be able to check out the Flashpoint versions of the world at level 15, without worrying about whether they are gated from the content thanks to it being free for everyone. The new expansion hits on April 15th on all platforms. You can checkout the full details, including some glimpses at villain-inspired cosmectics on the full PS Blog.
