DayZ's latest expansion, Frostline, is now available, bringing players to a frozen archipelago, new survival mechanics, and more.

For starters, thanks to the fact that this new volcanic archipelago is forever blanketed in winter, Frostline will see players grappling with the need to stay warm constantly. Developer Bohemia Interactive has set out to "transform the survival experience" with this new map, Sakhal.

Via the Steam listing:

"Sakhal is a frozen volcanic archipelago located in the far east. With its windy hill tops, snowy forests, messy settlements, vast ice fields, and a massive naval base, it will certainly test the limits of your survival skills. The temperature on Sakhal is usually below zero degrees Celsius. Food supplies are scarce and mostly found frozen, forcing players to thaw them out. The landscape’s volcanic nature, meanwhile, poses additional contamination challenges. With food in short supply, many players will resort to hunting. We wanted to make sure this part of the game feels unique, so we’re introducing three new animals to hunt for and two new fish to try and catch."

With the Frostline update, DayZ players will also see some changes to the hive experience, with the introduction of a "regional loot economy." This means that loot will be divided based on climate and "regional themes," such as Sakhal's need to have warmer winter clothing, while Livonia's summer climes being more suited for summer clothes.

DayZ: Frostline is available on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, with a 10% discount going on as of the time of this writing to celebrate the launch. Additionally, DayZ players who want to dive a bit deeper into the mechanics and design decisions made by the developers when building Frostline, check out a series of devblogs from the developers.
