Daybreak Games has announced the re-introduction of three studios under new names with the intent of giving each studio greater freedom for development.
According to the press release, the initiative is called “Franchise First” with the aim to allow each studio to develop their own identities,
“By allowing the identities of each of these studios to thrive under their individual studios, each team will have the flexibility to continue their work developing current and upcoming games, recruiting new talent and building upon the legacy of their respective franchises.”
These studios are Dimensional Ink Games, Darkpaw Games and Rogue Planet Games. Dimensional Ink Games are Austin-based and operate DCUO, which they will continue to support. They’ll also continue work on their next MMO project in 2020.
Darkpaw Games will focus on EverQuest, and continue development there while also working on, “the studio’s next innovation.” Finally, Rogue Planet Games is the San Diego-based studio with PlanetSide and PlanetSide 2. They’ll develop their next game for shooter fans under the new name.
