Daybreak Game Company has announced PlanetSide Arena, "a new massive-scale multiplayer sci-fi shooter" that is slated to be released on January 29, 2019. According to press information, there will be several familiar features in place including the class system, arms gameplay, "dynamic in-match and seasonal progression". The map will eventually be able to support up to 1,000 players.
PlanetSide Arena initially launches with three major game modes: Massive Clash, an epic 500-player Group vs. Group experience, along with Solo and Team Battle Royale modes. New modes like Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy, and Global Conquest will be introduced each new game season.
Players will be able to select from three roles: Assault, Engineer or Medic and will drop onto the map. Once landing, they will have access to a personal vehicle and "unique abilities which can be upgraded throughout the match".
Players concerned that development of PlanetSide 2 will stop need not worry. The team is "fully committed to providing the active development support" for the game.
PlanetSide Arena is already available for pre-order for $19.99 which also includes the Season 1 Battle Pass and a special armor set. A Legendary Edition for $39.99 has three armor sets (one for each role), a hoverbike pack and the Season 1 Battle Pass. All those who preorder will have access to Closed Beta opportunities.
