Daybreak Game Company has confirmed earlier reports that there had been layoffs across its teams, but said the number is under 15.
Previous reports didn’t reveal any numbers, though there was wild speculation at the time. Reports originally started due to some spotting layoff posts shared by former employees on LinkedIn and elsewhere on social media. The company has confirmed that they are among the companies trimming staff so far this year, but it is a cut focused on “recalibration”.
In a statement shared with GamesIndustry.biz, a Daybreak representative said:“We can confirm that a small number of employees (less than 15) were recently transitioned in connection with an overall assessment and recalibration of our business”.
The rep didn’t confirm the scope of the cuts, but the same earlier reports indicated that they happened across teams, including DC Universe Online, EverQuest, Dungeons & Dragons Online, and The Lord of the Rings Online. Daybreak also seems to have sold off PlanetSide 2, and officially confirmed to us that no other IP is being sold.
With these confirmed layoffs, Daybreak officially joins the list of companies that continue entering into what they are calling restructuring or reassessment phases and involve the loss of at least some jobs.
No word yet on what impact these losses might have, but the company is offering affected employees severance and help with job transition.
