Dave Georgeson Details Future Updates

Sony Online Entertainment's Dave Georgeson has been a busy man with the alpha launch of EverQuest Next: Landmark and today's post detailing future updates for EverQuest II. In a nutshell, SOE plans to provide smaller, less-significant updates on a weekly basis and beefier, content rich updates every month. According to Georgeson, SOE is committed to this schedule and has every intention to honor it.

The weekly updates will feature holiday events, bug fixes, feature enhancements and those things that, according to Georgeson, do not warrant "highlighting" in a monthly update.

Monthly updates, on the other hand, might include things like the recent dungeon overhaul for high level players, new itemization, new quest arcs, a zone sweep or even unexpected random events.

Most significantly, Georgeson said that the team is motivated and committed to bringing these updates to players on a consistent schedule.

  • How will this impact the quality of the expansion?
    • We’re putting a huge emphasis on how important the expansion pack is to you. The feedback on that has been almost universal. “Make Our Expansion Matter.” So that’s what we intend to do.
  • Is SOE locked into this schedule? Do we mean EVERY week and EVERY month?
    • Answer: Yes, we mean it. We’re going to work hard to make it happen regularly and dependably.

We like this new strategy as a whole. The EQ and EQII team Producers (Thom and Holly) have created detailed schedules of how the rhythm of this stuff will play out across the coming months. And my reaction, as a player of these games, is that it all sounds pretty fantastic.
