Darkest Dungeon II is getting a free update, Kingdoms, later this year that will add a new campaign game mode.
The announcement came at the Triple-i initiative Showcase event, and came accompanied by a teaser trailer. The new mode is a race against time. There’s a mysterious threat and you will have to locate and destroy the threat before it destroys the kingdom. In these cases, it's never as simple as it sounds. There's a network of inns serving as safe havens as you journey across to gather resources and destroy the evil. Your heroes will be key here, in addition to those inns that you visit.
Carefully upgrade your heroes and make choices to get you through the dangerous journey and successfully face the threats along the way. You can also upgrade the inns themselves to help you along. Not only does your to-do list include stopping a big evil threat, it also has gathering resources on it and confronting a series of evil incursions you encounter on the journey.
The new update will add three new monster factions: Beastmen, The Coven, and Crimson Courtiers.
All of these puzzle pieces together should get you through–or, in the Darkest Dungeon way–not.
You’ll get to make different choices and try again to find the right combination, including in terms of roster management, combat, and of course, making sure you have the right resources, and picking the best people for the job and upgrading them well. Kingdoms is designed as a huge update that blends elements of both Darkest Dungeon titles.
Kingdoms will be part of a free update expected late this year. The new mode will be available independently from the original five Confessions campaign segments. .
Darkest Dungeon II notably got new DLC a few months ago, The Binding Blade, which added new playable characters to the base game’s dozen. As part of the Triple-i Initiative announcement, there’s a Steam sale on games featured in the showcase, including Darkest Dungeon II and its DLC.
