If a new rumor is to be believed, Cyberpunk 2077 is delayed because of current generation consoles.

In a report by Altchar, Polish insider Borys Niespielak claims that the current gen consoles, specifically the Xbox One (OG, not X), simply isn’t powerful enough to run CD Projekt RED’s RPG. The claim comes via podcast, which is in Polish.

His sources confirmed to him that if, “this problem with Xbox has not been solved by January 2020, the release date must be postponed.” Additional information was translated by Discord user Klawiaturodzierzca:

  • At GDC they talked to an important person who said that this game in this form has no way for it to go on the current generation (this point is not rumors, information from inside the studio)
  • Some problems are not yet solved, mainly technological
  • Industry rumors say that they knew there was a very high probability not delivering the game (rumors died down 2/3 months ago)

Again, this is just a rumor and has not been confirmed. We simply don’t know if there will be a downgrade from the various demos, or if the PC version will be affected at this time either. We’ll have to wait and see if CDPR addresses these rumors. We’ll try to reach out for comment and be sure to provide updates should they arise.
