A new upcoming co-op horror and action game, Begone Beast, has released its estimated Early Access release of February 2025 in a new trailer. Released during the Gamescom Opening Night Live Preshow, this new trailer also features new gameplay footage that gives a better idea of what players will be facing.
According to its Steam page, Begone Beast is about a “sleepy small town” (spoiler: it’s probably not) that’s under constant threat of “hordes of nightmarish creatures.” The page also boasts a “Dynamic AI Director,” procedurally-generated levels, and both online and “couch” co-op.
It features several unique playable characters: a bear, a rabbit, a frog, a llama(?), and the obligatory human. Each character will have unique abilities, from close-ranged swordplay to spellcasting, so each player brings something unique to the table (or battlefield) as they defeat waves of enemies and bosses in a spooky setting. While it’s got a cartoonish style, it doesn’t seem to slack on horror vibes nor hack-and-slash action.
The Gamescom trailer shows more gameplay than before, and it looks like a blast for anyone looking for a fresh horror experience with friends. Other horror games are a little more slow-paced, or force players into a first-person experience for the classic in-your-face jumpscare moments. This one focuses more on the action, so players and their friends can have fun flailing about when a big wave of enemies draws close.
