The player specialization system for Crowfall is getting enhanced as was revealed in a live stream earlier featuring Creative Director J. Todd Coleman.
The enhancement was apparently led by player feedback, so yay us! The team focused on three design goals including offering a much greater number of combinations, more character variability, and forcing players to make more difficult choices.
To that end, over 1500 powers, including 100 new powers, were implemented into a new system. The goal of this was to create more variability. They did this by grouping these powers into various domains allowing you drill down into various sub classes. However, this comes at a cost of player decision making.
They didn’t want players to make some “god” character, rather, make characters that were good at specific scenarios. The new system looks at race, class, talents, disciplines, and promotion class (specialty classes) to further that design goal.
