Gravity is once again expanding the Ragnarok franchise with the upcoming side-scrolling MMORPG Ragnarok Begins. The upcoming game, which takes players into the early ages of Midgard, has opened pre-registration.
Ragnarok Begins takes place 100 years before the events of Ragnarok Online. You’ll get to visit the earlier days of Midgard, in the middle of a time when there is a feud between Odin's worshippers and Freya's worshippers. The Pope of Arunafeltz then disappears, and this is one of the key narrative threads that you’ll be able to investigate. Figure out just what happened that led to the pope’s disappearance and uncover some of the early secrets of Midgard.
Pick from Ragnarok’s four main base jobs–Swordsman, Archer, Mage, and Acolyte–and eventually pick an advanced class option. The art style will be similar to other Ragnarok titles, but the gameplay happens in a 2.5D side-scrolling action style, with MMORPG non-targeting and brawler elements. If you’ve played Ragnarok Origin, you’ll have some idea of what to expect from the action.
The Endless Tower will be there, along with world bosses, Poring Island, and collections for PvE-oriented players. Ranked PvP in Valhalla will feature for those looking for a fight and to claim some glory. Expect other familiar Ragnarok elements, including the open world and social elements.
The new game is cross-platform and will be out sometime this winter on PC and mobile. With the cross-platform support, you'll also have progression saved so you can pick up and play on the go if you want and then return to your PC later or however fits your style.
The official pre-registration campaign has begun, and Gravity will keep unlocking more goodies that will be available at launch to those who signed up. These will include cosmetic items, resources, currency, and more.
