Star Wars: The Old Republic celebrated its 10th anniversary last December, with a yearlong celebration that continues, as well as Legacy of the Sith and a slew of changes. Now, the team has several important changes, including the next update, 7.1, coming August 2nd, and the departure of Creative Director Charles Boyd.

Charles Boyd has been with the company for the past 16 years and has worked on Star Wars the Old Republic. His departure from the team was announced via a special community blog from Executive Producer Keith Kanneg. Boyd says:

“Even after almost sixteen years, I still can’t fully believe how lucky I’ve been to work on Star Wars: The Old Republic. The Star Wars galaxy has always been a huge part of my life since I was a kid, so getting to play a role in SWTOR’s growth from its initial vision to a colossal release and then an incredible live service for over a decade has been an amazing experience. The team’s passion, creativity, and dedication to this game are incredible; I don’t think I can ever fully express how much I’ve admired and appreciated working with them every single day.

As always, there are some exciting things in the works for the future of SWTOR - storylines and planets and gameplay and characters that I can’t wait to see come to life. I’m really looking forward to experiencing them all right alongside our players. “

The SWTOR design leadership team retains Lead Producer Eric Musco, who was once the Community Manager, but has been in game production for some time. Narrative Director Ashley Ruhl will oversee storytelling work. Caitlin Sullivan Kelly, Lead Writer, has been with the narrative team for over eight years. Alan Copeland, UX Director, who has been working on some of the modernization improvements in recent years. Finally, George Smith is Gameplay Design Director, and will oversee the gameplay team.

With that said, the next update will be coming on August 2nd and this update will have new daily mission arcs for both the Republic and Imperial players on the planet of Manaan, a new 8-player Operation, improvements to the recently-added weapons in Outfitter system, and new story with revelations about Darth Malgus and the relics he has been looking for.
