Palia, a “cozy” MMO, has announced that it’ll be available on Steam in 2024. The page is up on the Steam store with descriptions, photos, videos, and the ability to wishlist, but the actual Steam release date is nonspecific, just listing “2024.”
Already, Palia launched into an “Open Beta” in late October both with a native launcher version and on the Epic Games Store for PC. It’s already starting to slowly stretch its platform wings, as it saw a Switch launch earlier this month. It’s unclear if Steam’s release will be part of the Open Beta or a full-fledged release.
It’s also unknown if Epic Games and/or PC native launcher versions of Palia will carry over into Steam versions, but if it’s any indication, there’s also presently no cross-platform carry-over between PC and Switch.
For many MMORPGs, including Final Fantasy 14 and Guild Wars 2, this is similarly not the case between native launcher and Steam versions; such incompatibilities are often due to royalty issues and/or negotiations for the hosting platform. Palia’s Epic Games Store presence on PC may also be another consideration for similar reasons.
Palia is a light-hearted MMO that lets players focus on many familiar “cozy” or “casual” MMORPG content, including fishing, cooking, farming, and house customization. There’s also story and NPC content, including promised friendable and even romanceable characters.
