The Age of Heroes has arrived in Conan Exiles. The latest chapter brings significant changes to make your thralls and followers into full characters with their own experiences and adds two new, fully-voiced companions your choices will affect.
The first chapter is now out, and introduces us to two new characters, the Khitan sorcerer Liu Fei and Aesir warrior Freya. Freya features in the Age of Heroes launch trailer, and you’ll get a taste of her background and how you might make an impact of your own. These are characters you will have to find across the Exiled Lands and take on individual questlines to gain their loyalty.
The decisions you make through each of their questlines will determine what perks they bring to the table once you’ve earned their loyalty and made them permanent companions. You'll have to get to know them, and that’s a big part of this new arc overall.
One of the sweeping changes you’ll notice is to followers and thralls. All of your worker thralls will now be NPCs with their own moods, needs, preferences, hobbies, and more to witness. They will still complete their duties but they'll need to conduct their own business like socializing, and meeting needs like getting sleep and needing to eat. When followers are not actively following, guarding, or scouting, their status will be hidden in nameplates.
There will be different characteristics to discover once you get to know these characters. They may even reveal things while being tested. If there’s danger or chaos, some might flee. Others will fight beside you. You’ll have to find out for yourself.
Full details are in the patch notes, but Age of Heroes starts a major overhaul to the systems you know, while adding new life into settlements, quality of life improvements and some jumps forward. The update also completes the removal of Conan Exiles’ Battle Pass and associated challenges.
