Conan Exiles is preparing for Age of War Chapter 2, on September 21st, and the Funcom team has shared a deep dive into the upcoming complete overhaul of Purges.
The new devblog actually walks us through a purge from start to finish, illustrating how it will work and why they’ve made the decision to change certain aspects. Currently, A part occurs when a group of NPCs comes in and attacks your base after you reach certain activity thresholds in the game.
Funcom felt like this was a good option but just didn't live up to its potential and could be a much better challenge with an overhaul. However, this wasn't going to work in a single update, as they had to lay the foundation down by adding and changing some additional features first.
Age of War Chapter 1 added clan hoards. Find treasure in chests and loot your defeated enemies, and take everything for safekeeping into your vault. This was really the beginning because of course, it sets up the target for the new version of purges. This is where the invading Stygians will be focused. Purges won't just happen anymore, as you will decide when you want a purge to begin.
This happens when you declare your wealth and wait. The bigger the size and value of our treasure hoard when you make this proclamation, and thus leave your horde vulnerable, the more rewarding it will be if you win. Chapter 2 also brings a series of loot improvements overall.Other factors also play a part, like how many followers you have and how many defenders are active.
Before you do all of that though, you will probably want to shore up your defenses and even build new ones. The team is adding new tools for stronger defenses, like the new burning siege cauldrons. Even some good old fashioned strengthening your walls and laying some effective traps will also help.
Once you are ready, declare yourself open for a challenge and the Stygian war camp will form somewhere in the vicinity of your base if there’s enough space. At that point, the waves will begin and they will attack anything in their way to try and plunder your hoard.
The complete devblog goes into more details on the battles, win conditions, and even losing to the enemy waves. The team is also teasing a little bit of additional relevant siege equipment and variety on the way in Chapter 3.
