Community Reddit Tackles Concerns & More

The Gigantic team took to Reddit last week to answer community questions about the recent revelations of company layoffs and the delay of the game. Questions ranged from whether or not the presence of an NDA hurt Gigantic's visibility to new gameplay modes to a content release timeline.

With regard to content release:

We agree that a regular schedule of updates is really important to keep a game fresh and keep the community energized. Our goal is to have monthly content updates. Many of these would be new heroes, but some would be new maps, creatures, or guardians, and of course we'll be releasing features and smaller content updates like skins, but those should be in addition to the big monthly updates.

We are still working up to being able to meet that cadence. The challenge for us there is almost entirely on the design side of things. A ton of work goes into the art, audio, animation, and visual effects for each character, but the artists we have do a great job of getting things done on time, and I think the quality of their work stands for itself.

Design and balance is really where the schedule uncertainty lies for us. That's always the case to some degree with game design, but over time your team (hopefully) gets better at designing and tuning the game. We've seen a lot of progress there in the last year, but we still have a few areas we need to improve on. As we resolve our remaining major design questions, we'll be able to maintain a more regular cadence on new heroes, creatures, and guardians as well.
