First Dwarf, a colony/tower defense game fused with massive survival/exploration features, announced a demo and release date for Early Access. By way of a new gameplay (and sort of narrative?) trailer, we now know we’ll be able to get our hands on the game by way of a new demo on Steam, with a full Early Access version coming on June 9th.
In short, you’re a dwarf looking for a new life after a mage war ruins your homeland, sending you on new adventures, and forcing you to find ways to overcome the things trying to ruin that for you.
The game promises customizable self-defending villages, exploration of massive floating islands, flying on dragons’ backs and… dwarf mech fighting against big monsters? I didn’t expect to see fantasy mech versus kaiju combat going into writing this piece. I’m trying not to think too deeply about this one. Plus, you can play with friends.
We’ve seen gameplay previously of a similar nature, but it’s cool to see the new developments and a trailer. One of our own editors even got to get hands-on with First Dwarf’s demo at PAX West, where he describes deceptively deep gameplay by ways of finding mana reservoirs through exploration, pulling off combos in battle, and setting up autonomous “colonies” to ensure your home base won’t die while you’re chopping wood.
