Classic MMORPG inspired Brighter Shores, from Jagex co-founder and former RuneScape lead, Andrew Gower, is going into early access later this year. Gower announced the expected date for the release, and details about what “early access" will mean for the independent MMORPG.
Brighter Shores was officially announced back in March as a free to play, episodic MMORPG, and since then, Gower has updates from time to time on social media. Recently, he shared gummy worm-like infographic “History of Brighter Shores Development” that detailed some of the work that would become this game having started back in 2010 with the engine. Formal development on Brighter Shores itself began back in 2016. Alpha testing has so far had about 12 people, mostly staff members, but things will be changing soon.
Last week, he announced what Early Access means for the game, and it all revolves around PvP. PvP will be optional, but it will be an included feature at some point. “For a feature this important I want to take the time to get it exactly right, so it probably won’t quite be ready at launch, but will be a very high priority feature to finish soon after launch,” he said.
As for early access,
“The plan is the game will be labelled as ‘early access’ until PvP is added. i.e I want to let people start playing without having to wait even longer” while still saying that it's not finished and there are still some big features to come, including PvP.

Once he mentioned PVP as well as Early Access and what that means for the project, the community wasted no time and asking for a date. And now, we have one, courtesy of a humorous video featuring an interrogation by NPC.
November 5th is Brighter Shores early access target date, and it only took a virtual interrogation to get it.
