CNN.com is reporting that four Second Life players have filed a class action lawsuit against Linden Lab over the ownership of virtual land in Second Life. The suit claims that Linden Lab has misled players into thinking they owned their virtual land.

The plaintiffs, who filed the suit in te US District Court of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, are citing California's consumer protection laws to make their case. Linden Lab is based in California.

The complaint alleges Linden Lab promised that players actually owned their property, and that they have since changed their rules stating that the lend is provided as a "service" that can be canceled at any time. The plaintiffs are seeking $5 million in damages.
