An upcoming entry in the city building simulation genre promises all the best parts of these games, with a far more laid-back approach. City Tales - Medieval, by fresh studio Irregular Shapes, was unveiled at the PC Gaming Most Wanted show and is set to launch as an Early Access title in 2025.

In City Tales - Medieval Era, players start small with villages that sprawl naturally over time into cities, utilizing procedural technology to expand construction into unique buildings as appropriate based on the environment and what else the player has already built.

Along the way, players also manage complex economies and build “Great Wonders” to make their villages feel grand and alive, with over 50 types of resources and 60 types of buildings to tap into.

To emphasize a longer underlying narrative and also help players when they need a bit of guidance, Medieval Era also includes a small cast of NPC characters that “work with the player to build the city and whose storyline and growth they get to decide.”

Despite the immense systems, City Tales - Medieval Era focuses on being an approachable and “relaxing village simulator” where time constraints don’t hamper enjoyment.

City Tales - Medieval Era is the first project of Irregular Shapes, a British studio founded by and composed of city builder game enthusiasts.
