Development on City of Titans gets a 2024 roundup, with details and a new video showing off some of the new and improved systems, from movement across the board, to weapons, and enemy AI.

Missing Worlds Media released the Big City update a year ago and since then, they've been working on the systems and characters. In a new video with pre-alpha footage, which we're warned has a ton of placeholder assets, Jason, part of the game’s PR team, leads us to one of the first things we get to see: improvements in movement. This applies to both player characters and NPCs, and some of the  work went into improving parkour as a way to move about the city for player characters and enemies. The team has been working on movement across different types of terrain, and Parkour in the city is just one element.

We also get to see fighting, as part of their series of combat improvements, And also enemies holding weapons, which comes from the same system that allows characters to hold weapons. Additionally, in the footage, a cape appears on the player character and that is using the same system that allows characters to hold weapons. Because they are building it in the same system, Jason mentions this also “means the possibility of future costume items like shoulder mounted cannons, pets sitting on shoulders, hovering armor pieces and so forth”. Maybe dreaming of a superpowered pirate with a parrot  isn't a stretch of the imagination.

We get an early look at ranged combat with enemies trying to keep their distance from the player character. MWM’s  intentions are to make City of Titans’ combat and movement feel fluid and to have enemies strategically using terrain around them.

The rest of the 2024 update includes a few peeks at what they're working on, including an early look at the contact and mission system and inventory functionality. The next update promises to include some of these systems previewed in the video as well as some surprises.
