The City of Titans team has lost one of their key developers, their primary city designer and builder, Nathan Purkiss. In a post, simply titled “Nathan”, they pay tribute to Purkiss, and offer the community a chance to grieve the loss as well.
“On July 24th our friend Nathan Purkiss, better known to the City of Titans community as Red Warlock, passed away from cancer. He had been battling the disease for some time and, like a true Hero, fought until the very end,” they begin. The tribute and announcement came now, months later, “out of respect for his family and loved ones, to give them the time they needed. Also, we needed some time to process the shock and loss we felt”.
Purkiss was a member of Missing Worlds Media’s team on City of Titans, which is being built by a mostly volunteer team from all over. He himself joined up as a volunteer and learned many of the skills that he’d come to use in designing the neighborhoods of Titan City in the game. For those who have seen the buildings and the streets, you’ve seen Nathan Purkiss’ work. If you've communicated with the team, he was also one of the active members of the pr team answering community questions and giving updates when asked.
On a game like this, being built by this kind of team, it's not surprising that people played multiple roles. This also means that the impact of any one person is rather large.
“He was most excited to have people visit the city he made. He loved watching people exploring and finding the hidden secrets and surprises he had added,” they said, while also sharing a link for the community to discuss anything on Nathan Purkiss’ loss and work.
