Hot off the recent announcement that NCSOFT have granted the City of Heroes Homecoming team a license to host City of Heroes is a new update that outlines what went into the journey to get to this point, a number of friendly server merges, and some new information on the game’s next major release: Issue 27: Page 7.

The team explains that efforts to acquire the City of Heroes license date all the way back to May 2019 with the launch of the Homecoming private server, though they admit the process wasn’t as smooth as they’d have liked:

“It’s been a long road, and we know some of our decisions have seemed questionable or frustrating at times. We know we’ve made some mistakes and missteps along the way, but our motive has never changed. Everything we’ve done has been in service of that original goal.”

The announcement FAQ also made mention of merging a number of servers outside of Homecoming and we now know which of the other private servers will be participating: Victory and Paragon. The process of merging these servers is described as “complicated” so it’ll be a number of months before the merges are completed.

Lastly, the Homecoming team announced that Issue 27: Page 7, the first major game update to Homecoming since Issue 27: Page 6 released in April of 2023, will enter open beta “very soon.”

The team promises the update is “huge” and will include new power sets, story arcs, zone updates, new customization options, and more. A couple of screenshots were shared as well, offering a sneak peak at what’s to come.
