Chrono Odyssey made a splash at the Epic State of Unreal showcase at GDCtoday. Chrono Studio CEO Bong-Gun Bae introduced the MMORPG, presented a brand new trailer, and gave lots of details on their buy to play open-world action MMORPG.

Taking on publishing duties for Chrono Odyssey is Kakao Games, a deal that was also announced today. Kakao Games as the global publisher will assist Chrono Studio in not just localization, but in marketing, and community engagement. The game will release on PC and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but for now, has an Epic Games Store and Steam listing for the PC release with today’s big announcements.

Developed using Unreal Engine 5, the presentation at the Epic event showed off some of the visuals, the lighting, and the versatility of how the game came together, becoming that open-world action MMORPG as they continued work on the game. One of the highlights there is character customization. The number of options shown was varied, showing off different hair and skin tones, body art, tattoos, facial hair, and even things like vitiligo.

Chrono Odyssey will let you manipulate time and space, Going from past, to present, and the future to save the world. There will be six combat classes and 18 weapons, with all classes having the opportunity to manipulate space and time, and the team emphasizes that you should be able to find the combination that suits you.  the space and time manipulation is integral to the experience and you can use it to gain particular advantages during battles.

In the presentation, Bae  mentioned data layers, which they used to create these real-time environments on top of one another so that you can travel to the different states of the landscape in an MMORPG environment. The use of these data layers and a world partition lets them create the open world that is over 12 km2 and to allows for a dynamic landscape with multiplayer action in real time.

It’s a big undertaking, and the Chrono Odyssey team had been pretty quiet for a while, but now we should be seeing more as the MMORPG heads towards its global launch.
