Chris Metzen, yes that Chris Metzen of Blizzard and Warcraft legend, has launched a new tabletop company called Warchief Gaming.
Warchief Gaming was launched alongside former Blizzard VP of Quality Assurance, Mike Gilmartin. Metzen even made the announcement on his Twitter page,
“Well, I guess retirement didn’t last as long as I thought it would... I’ve started a new career adventure! New worlds await! Come see what the hubbub’s all about!”
Speaking with VentureBeat, Chris shared his reason for coming out of retirement and feeling recharged,
“Tabletop is where I learned to be creative with my friends growing up, playing D&D, playing Warhammer. Loving these ideas and playing these games in the same space as my best friends. Those are some of my most cherished memories. At 47, I come back to that. Even after that glorious Blizzard experience, I want that intimate scale again. This is my path.”
He cites the smaller, more intimate nature of tabletop development compared to traditional games and says he’s excited by the simplicity of it. The entire interview is worth the read. Check out the video announcement below:
