CCP Unveils Project Legion, An MMOFPS for the PC Gamer

Ever since I played Dust 514 on PlayStation 3, I’ve been itching for CCPs first-person shooter to arrive on PC. With today’s unveiling of Project Legion at EVE FanFest, it feels like those prayers are being answered - but in a surprising new way. Don’t expect a straightforward port though, as the vision for this new title is much deeper than its console-based predecessor.

Built on the foundations of Dust 514, and using most of the same development team, Project Legion is intended to provide a different experience. Speaking to monetization director and producer Julien Dulioust, the Shanghai-based group intends to build “EVE on the ground,” creating a complex sandbox that fits with CCPs style. It’s that player-driven experience that the team hopes will set it apart from other MMOFPS games currently available.

Right now, Project Legion is an early prototype, with the studio experimenting on creating the right tools for players to create their own metagame. Monetization and progression systems are also being developed - although it will be free-to-play, the studio is strongly staying away from pay-to-win. It doesn’t spell the end of Dust 514 either, as further updates are still in the pipe for CCP’s console-base shooter.

We’ll be going into further detail on Project Legion soon, together with a full interview from Senior Producer Julien Bourbonnais.
