CCP Games has revealed EVE Frontier, the official title for the single-shard sandbox previously codenamed Project Awakening, along with new details.
This is a “space survival game defined by freedom, challenge, and consequence” and you’ll start in a precarious place. You find yourself awakened from stasis as a human from a more optimistic age. Civilization is a shadow and ruin of what it once was, and ambition and hope seems to be gone in this brutal new era. There are feral drones all over the wastelands and there are survivors out there who are looking to obtain resources and gain a foothold so continue surviving.
“Cast into a cruel and brutal cosmos, you have been lost to time and lost to light. To survive, you will need to explore, exploit and expand in the face of perpetual annihilation. The Frontier is a shattered region of space, warped by the presence of supermassive black holes gravitationally bound in a macabre dance. Rogue AI infests its depths; corrupting and consuming the remnants of what still stands.”
You'll have to use your skills as a pilot and learn how to survive in the Frontier, find and use natural resources, upgrade your ship, get fuel to power exploration, and more.
Your choices will help determine how your encounters play out and you'll get a chance to tailor your experience to your play style. The in-game economy will be completely community-driven and created, and if you’re an EVE fan, you'll already understand the impact of this. You and the other players on this single shard can do things like create custom currencies, create trade markets, services, and whatever you can think of.
And you’ll get to work to rebuild society. Smart Assemblies is an open-ended platform within that everyone can use to build infrastructure, services, private economies, mission systems, and more, limited by what you can come up with. Third-party developers with ideas can also use the platform to add an endless number of possibilities. The Frontier Is the beginning of encouraging creative solutions, and making decisions that have lasting impact.
