CCP is looking back over 2022 in EVE Online, with a special video with many stats on what the Capsuleer community accomplished.
EVE Online is entering its 20th year, fresh off the release of the most recent expansion, Uprising. And in 2023, CCP is looking ahead to even more surprises. The year’s list of changes and developments is still pretty long though. In addition to the new expansion, which brought new ships, and changes to Factional Warfare, EVE Online also released its first Spanish-language client, further overhauled the new player experience, celebrated a return to in-person Fanfest, and a whole lot more.
Other highlights included a series of technical features that were designed to create a better sensory experience for players. Including a number of changes to reduce the demand on players systems as well as create an all-around smoother experience that lets you keep your attention where it's needed the most. One of these is the new sound prioritization system that boosts sounds that are relevant to what's going on, reduces CPU usage on your system, and clarifies sound on the battlefield.
The year in review would not be complete without going over the various continued updates to the new player experience. These changes are robust and designed to make it so that new players could be less intimidated and have the tools to handle all the basics and learn from both others in the community and hands-on experience.
However, naturally, there was a whole lot of conflict this year too. And destruction. In a release, we can see some stark numbers:
Since January 2022, capsuleers have:
Played a total of 184,934,779 hours
Defeated 1,455,957,772 NPCs
Destroyed a staggering 810,755,757,143,624 ISK worth of in-game items
If you're in the EVE community, you may even guess how much of that ISK total comes from your end.
There was 45.02 trillion ISK in bounty hunter earnings, 2,604 unique wormholes visited, 5871378 data sites completed in New Eden, 57.31 trillion ISK in bank thefts, and 148,533,232 wrecks salvaged. Clearly, EVEhad a busy year, and with the 20th anniversary coming, 2023 might surpass it.
