City State Entertainment (CSE) has posted their latest development update for Camelot Unchained, which notes many improvements to the game and its overall development status. In the latest Top Tennish update, Senior Producer Terry Coleman outlined the various enhancements, bug fixes, and exciting new additions the team has been working on.
First and foremost, CSE has stated that they have been aggressively hiring talent in recent months, and their efforts have begun to bear fruit as new team members have made valuable contributions across various disciplines, including art, design, and engineering. Among the new hires is Travis, the new Community Manager, who will be working closely with Brian to expand his roles and responsibilities at the studio, and hopefully that will also translate to interested potential players receiving more information about the game, more consistently.
The development team also showed off the Valkyrie race in the latest update, which includes new winged models, unique armor for each class, and several new banes and boons. Additionally, the team has revamped the racial traits and added new icons to enhance the user experience.
Of course, as with most of Camelot Unchained’s updates, you know that there is a healthy dose of concept art featured in the April 12th newsletter, provided by Kara, which showcases the work done on the Valkyrie race. The new 3D models, animations, and equipment updates breathe new life into the game, ensuring that the Valkyries join the ranks of the winged races in their quest for conquest.
The team has also outlined numerous bug fixes, addressing issues related to siege ammo, alchemy systems, and NPC behavior. The engineering team has stated they have been working hard on terrain authoring improvements, netcode improvements, and camera debugger features to create a more seamless gaming experience for players. These changes can all be seen first hand by backers who have access to the weekend test builds.
Camelot Unchained's crafting system is also undergoing a significant revamp, with updates to the Vox token system, more data-driven item resources, and visual item customization. While the crafting update isn't quite ready for public release, the development team is eager to share these improvements with players soon.
As part of the ongoing UI overhaul, the update includes new racial UI renders, an updated data pipeline, ability bars, game info menus, settings menus, and a compass. The team is also working on a camera debugger GUI to help designers fine-tune camera parameters and create the best user experience possible.
CSE has been committed to continuous improvement and expansion of their scope for Camelot Unchained though the latest update is missing a word from Mark Jacobs, who was absent in last week’s monthly developer stream as well. According to Coleman, Jacobs was not feeling well this month, and hopefully he will be back in the swing of things on the game update next month. The development team is also set to shift its focus to gameplay and crafting updates in the coming months, promising even more enhancements and new features for players to enjoy.
Despite many of the original backers in the Camelot Unchained community having second thoughts as they’ve tried to obtain refunds, CSE's efforts to improve and expand the game have been quite consistent over the past several months, as they work to create a more immersive and engaging experience for their beta players. Hopefully they will be able to continue building steam, and live up to the legacy that Dark Age of Camelot has left.
