Camelot Unchained devleoper City State Entertainment has undergone a rebrand, now calling itself Unchained Entertainment, the company revealed today. This comes with new funding and a push towards the release of its first game, Final Stand: Ragnarok.

Camelot Unchained's developer's news this morning touts the engine powering everything, the Unchained Engine, as well as new funding from A16Z GAMES. The company also announced that, alongside the new funding and name change, they are ramping up development, hiring, and financing to bring Final Stand: Ragnarok and Camelot Unchained to market.

In the press release, the CEO Mark Jacobs points specifically to the Unchained Engine, saying that engine can deliver "massive battles similar" to the ones seen in The Lord of the Rings, and that it's meant to herald the "new generation of truly massively multiplayer games."

Via this morning's press release:

“The Unchained Engine is realizing a dream I’ve been obsessing over for more than 30 years,” said Mark Jacobs, President and CEO of Unchained Entertainment. “Our engine delivers massive battles similar to those seen in major Hollywood productions like Lord of the Rings, to video games where thousands of real players interact and share an epic experience in real time. We’re excited to launch our own games, and to share our technology with fellow dreamers in the not too-distant future.”

Unchained Entertainment says that its Unchained Engine is able to support multiple different styles of game, from a PvEvP extraction mode, to "swarm-based PvE action," and more.

Final Stand: Ragnarok is gearing up for its full 1.0 launch in March. However, the company's long-awaited MMORPG project,  Camelot Unchained, is now expected to be released "late next year." Camelot Unchained started its Kickstarter page back in 2013 and has been in development ever since. The company courted some controversy when it announced it was working on Final Stand: Ragnarok instead of focusing all its efforts on Camelot Unchained, and has hit a few snags in the MMO's development along the way.
