Bungie Showcases Gameplay and Launch Details From Its Upcoming Sci-Fi Extraction Shooter, Marathon

Bungie showcased its upcoming sci-fi extraction shooter, Marathon, this weekend, with Alpha footage, gameplay video, and signups for the first closed test. We also got a release date and more details.

Marathon launches on September 23rd on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will feature full cross-play and cross-save support. You are a Runner, a cybernetic mercenary looking to score goods and even power on the lost colony of Tau Ceti. There you take part in 3v3 team battles against other runners who also have their own futures in mind. In addition to battling other teams, you'll have to take on security forces to get yourself better weapons, cybernetic upgrades, and of course to try and survive so you can scavenge what you find and extract it. Build your reputation on your runs and your scores.

There’s a mysterious ship, Marathon, hanging above. Within, there might be the riskiest and potentially most rewarding extraction run ever. 

Bungie plans on endgame challenges and updates, continuing a mix of tactical and fast-paced FPS action, seasonal storytelling updates, community events, and more. To close out the event, they also premiered a cinematic Marathon short film, which, in a press release, “display[s] the team’s commitment to rich storytelling both in and out of the game

To go with the big reveals and the videos, they’ve opened a Discord, where you can sign up for playtest consideration.
