Buffy & Firefly Dev Closes

According to a post on the Multiverse site, the development house has been shuttered since early December. Originally partnered with 20th Century Fox to bring both a Buffy the Vampire Slayer MMO and a Firefly MMO to the world, Multiverse was also instrumental in the creation of branded advertising games for companies like McDonald's and for releasing movie-based games such as one for Avatar in 2009.

The post also mentions that the game engine created by Multiverse has been released to SourceForge for continued work by developers in an open source capacity.

A group of individuals is creating an online community to support developers who wish to continue using the Multiverse Platform. They are in the process of creating a non-profit foundation to take over support of the platform. A project has been created on SourceForge at http://sourceforge.net/projects/multiverse3d/ to provide access to the platform and facilitate further development by community members. Multiverse has contributed source code for the last released version of the 3D client, server, and tools (circa late 2008) as the initial starting point. Access the forums at http://multiverse.forumotion.co.uk to get the latest information on this project.
