Britaria has ceased development “due to financial constraints” and related challenges.
An independent sandbox MMORPG, Britaria, for those in need of a refresh, was the rebranded version of Legends of Aria that was supposed to be all in on blockchain elements and NFTs. That version was quietly rebranded as Citadel decided to pivot back to its 2019 ruleset in a separate release, Legends of Aria Classic, which is set to release soon.
Announcing the closure on Discord (H/T MMOFallout), the Britaria team thanked the community that remained to support them but ultimately, continuing development wasn’t feasible. That said, they’re seemingly opening up development to any interested parties who:
“Demonstrate either the capability to continue developing a complex game such as this or have the funds required to put a proper team in place. We are not looking to profit off of this transfer and take over in any capacity. If we find a suitable party, we will transfer ownership of the related companies, as well as all company assets (which includes the Legends of Aria IP).”
If they don't find someone suitable to take over within 60 days, they will begin the process of shutting down the studios entirely. If things weren’t financially sustainable before, if you’ve got deep pockets and want to toss some coins at this project, well, bids are due by August 4th.
