Brighter Shores Devs Reveal Plans for PvP, Combat Overhaul, and Future Updates

Fen Research, the team behind the sandbox MMORPG Brighter Shores, conducted an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on reddit. Developers have shared multiple things that can be expected in the following months. These include combat progression changes, PvP implementation, potential endgame contents, and more.

Combat professions and PvP

In order to address players’ concerns about separated combat professions in different episodes, Andrew mentioned a redesign of progression systems. They aim to make combat fit better within episodes while retaining progress from previous ‘save games’. He mentioned the possibility of a solution for the different play styles, whether AFK, active all the time, or something in between. The overhaul of combat, which is still in progress, is considered a high-priority update.

PvP was another big talking point. The studio revealed their concept of a stake-based opt-in PvP system that enables participants to show how much they’re willing to bet in battle. Instead of having PvP restricted to certain zones, it will be a game-wide thing.  A new planning “leagues” system will make the PvP more accessible for everyone regardless of combat level while still remaining challenging for high-end game players who want to dominate the top leagues.

Player feedback

The developers told us that they are always trying to balance ‘making things work’ with ‘fitting new stuff in’. As Brighter Shores expands, they stay committed to new interconnected professions, repeatable raid content, and mini-game. In a nutshell, endgame content remain on the roadmap, with the requirement of keeping professions relevant, especially with the addition of new unique drops.

The game is evolving more and more with feedback from the community. Andrew emphasized that player input has already impacted changes such as taking out of click-heavy mechanics and thinking of skill progression across episodes. Developers are also searching for new channels of communication, such as profession-specific chat options for continued socialization.

Game on track

Despite the fact that certain things - such as player housing - are still pipe dreams, other things like more and better transmogs, new co-op and leveling methods are certainly in the works. The team stated that they would keep posting regular updates and try to come up with new updates every week.  Nonetheless, they admitted that such a development cadence would require staff and the player base to grow.

Fen Research's honest insight during the AMA reveals their ambition and acknowledgment of the challenges ahead. Hopefully, Brighter Shores will keep growing steadily over time thanks to player-driven systems, connected content, and regular updates.
