BlizzCon 2018 Kicks Off with World of Warcraft Classic Announced for Summer 2019
It's BlizzCon Day and that usually means lots of announcements about Diablo, World of Warcraft, Starcraft, HearthStone, Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm. We'll be updating this article as the opening ceremony kicks off at 11:00 am Pacific / 2:00 pm Eastern. OPENING CEREMONY 2018
Mike Morhaime takes the stage. You may remember that Morhaime recently announced his retirement. He is reflecting on his 27 years with the company and "all the places this road" has taken he and his co-founders. He thanks the worldwide community for everything over the years before introducing new Blizzard President J. Allen Brack.
Meet Whomper, the wandering young yeti from the snowy passes of Drustvar, ready to melt the coldest of hearts. He stands atop two enormous feet, prepared to rock along and join you on your adventures throughout Azeroth (and beyond).
Starcraft is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a franchise. There's a new co-op commander, Zeratul. Google Deep Mind will be back with it cutting edge report on AI and creating stronger bonds between computers and humans.
Heroes of the Storm
HotS is our love letter to our favorite Blizzard characters and the team is exploring new things for our company. A new hero named Orphea, born entirely in the Nexus, is being shown. She was first seen in one of the HotS comics. The second video is a peek at forthcoming content.
World of Warcraft
Executive Producer John Hight takes the stage. He is reviewing the contents of the 8.1 update, Tides of Vengeance and reminds fans about a panel later today and a Q&A tomorrow.
World of Warcraft: Classic will be released in Summer 2019. Anyone with a WoW subscription will have access to Classic.
Lost Honor cinematic for Battle for Azeroth. Saurfang betrays Sylvanas, it seems, by forging a "partnership" with Anduin Wrynn of the Alliance.
Jeff Kaplan has taken the stage in the Overwatch theater. He is giving a review of the year since the last BlizzCon including a brief nod to Overwatch League. He introduces a new animated short called "Reunion" with McCree and someone named Ash. The video introduces a new Omnic named Echo.
ASH is the 29th new Hero in Overwatch. BOB is her ultimate - a cannon shooting, bowler wearing Omnic.
Blizzard Classic Games
Warcraft 3 is being remastered! Warcraft III Reforged. It's coming in 2019. The Spoils of War Edition and a Standard Edition are up for pre-order with goodies applied to each of Blizzard's other games.
Creative Director Ben Thompson takes the stage. He is reviewing the past year with its expansions. The newest expansion has been revealed (again...) and it's a troll-themed expansion in Gurubashi Arena. Rastakhan's Rumble is the new expansion. The expansion is already out for preorder.
Lead Designer Wyatt Chang takes the stage. The audience holds its breath. A new Diablo game for mobile devices. It is a full-fledged ARPG that can be played everywhere with anyone. It appears that the game is being developed in conjunction with Netease. It is called Diablo Immortal. "It is our chance to explore 20 years of unexplored stories between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3".
There are no plans to bring Diablo Immortal to PC.
Six classes, new abilities, new zones and environments, massively multiplayer on mobile devices.
