Blizzard Won't Be Holding BlizzCon This Year, Still Planning Live Events For Warcraft 30th Anniversary

Blizzard has decided to cancel BlizzCon this year but says that they have more in store for fans of their games to celebrate all that is Blizzard.

In a recent statement, Blizzard says:

“After careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024. This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it.”

Throughout the entirety of the statement, Blizzard never actually pinpoints why the event won't be taking place this year, as it has for many years previously. They do however say that the team is “approaching this year differently”, though they don't go into detail as to what that means.

BlizzCon is an event that brings new content announcements, trailers, and fun for the fans of several different Blizzard titles. This year, we have The War Within expansion coming out, which was already announced alongside several details, as well as the entirety of the new saga that goes along with the new expansion. We also already know about Cataclysm launching into its pre-patch state, and of course, Season of Discovery has already reached season three. There just may not be much to announce and get fans excited about, as we learned a lot early on this year.

Blizzard does say that they are planning to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Warcraft with multiple global in-person events along with in-game events across the different Warcraft games. They mention that even though these events are standalone and not the same as BlizzCon, it’s still a way to bring people together to celebrate the games they love.

Blizzard also mentions that this is not the end of BlizzCon entirely and that they are “just as excited as ever” to bring the event back in the future. Even so, we aren’t sure what these events will look like since Microsoft acquired the company, but only time will tell.
