Blizzard has shared a preview of professions ahead of the Shadowlands release for World of Warcraft next week.

If you have a character who has gathered professions in Battle for Azeroth, you may notice that Star Ranks have been removed. Blizzard assures us not to worry here as apparently we’ll gain more harvested material as we increase our skill.

Consumables from previous expansions make a return in Shadowlands as well. For example, leatherworks can make you armor kits which can increase stamina for chest gear for two hours. Alchemists will be able to create weapon oils. You can apply these oils to deal extra damage, for example.

While there are some things which return from previous expansions, there are some new things as well. Optional Reagents are one of them. These are ingredients which can be used when crafting armor, weapons, and jewelry. Optional Reagents can be slotted to set an item level.

The post also touches on legendary runecarving. If your character has Tailoring, Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, or Jewelcrafting professions, you’ll receive a recipe to create base pieces which is part of the runecarver storyline. You can craft these pieces or trade them.
