Blizzard Backs Away From Mechanic in Competitive Play

Blizzard has altered a somewhat controversial Overwatch competitive mechanic implemented last week in the v1.10 update. Designed to reduce the number of ties in competitive game play, the update required one team to "fully capture one more objective than your opponent" in order to win. This did not sit well with players and Blizzard admitted that it had "received a  tremendous amount of feedback" (i.e. lots of forum crabbing). As a result, the mechanic has been changed to something simpler.

From this point out, one team needs to gain more progress on completing an objective in order to win. The ramifications of the change could mean more tied games, though they will still be rare.

[W]e feel that the additional clarity of the victory moment and ability for the defense to react to the offense are worth it.
