Blind Player Has Been Challenging Preconceptions Since 2012

A group of World of Warcraft players on a European server have been challenging preconceptions by making sure that all can participate in raids and other activities, including their blinded war veteran Ben 'Hexu' Shaw. Hexu has an ally in his fight to change the notion that there are some things that are 'off limits' to the blind, including participation in MMO raiding. 'Davidian' serves as Hexu's "guide dog" in raids by calling out directions and generally assisting Hexu in any way possible.

According to guild mates, Davidian is making it his MMO life's work to find new and better ways to help out his comrade in arms.

My role to Ben is that I play as his in-game eyes, using the follow function put into a macro he can tab through the group and target and follow me. ... Every encounter, Ben is using a series of macros (e.g., target of target) to play his way through the game. Everything from boss fights to a simple repair goes through me. An example of this is the drakes in Dragon Soul that take you out to Warlord Zon'ozz and Yor'sahj. I have to first target them for Ben to interact with my target to take the flight out before I can.

While the  original story is from 2012, it's still worth a visit to read the full, heartwarming story over at Engadget.

Cheers to Davidian, Hexu and the Chamber of Aspects (EU) guild Die Safe!
