Pearl Abyss is celebrating 50 million Black Desert Online player registrations since the game's launch, alongside Pearl Abyss’ own 12th anniversary. There are ongoing events, and a Steam free play week beginning today.
Black Desert Online will be available to play for free on Steam from today and running through September 19th. If you don't have the game on Steam, you'll be able to navigate to the store page anytime after 1 PM Eastern time and play the game for the free week. You’ll have access to the base game and the chance to get to know what things are like.
Pearl Abyss has been working over recent months to streamline some of the game's features, menus, text, and other requirements in order to make it less unwieldy for new players to join. These efforts continue, and now with this free play week, they have a chance to add to those 50 million registered accounts.
The game originally launched in South Korea in 2014 and launched in the West two years later. Today, Black Desert Online is published and live in over 150 countries across multiple platforms.
In a release announcing the Steam week and the attention the game has received since release,CEO James Heo thanked the community around the world. He also says that, “We will strive relentlessly to improve Black Desert and build on our success with new IP that are currently being developed using brand new technical facilities and are running on our proprietary BlackSpace Engine".
There's no hint yet as to what this might be, but it does hint that there is something to come on the horizon even while Black Desert continues getting a lot of support.
Pearl Abyss also announced that Black Desert will have a presence at TwitchCon in October and present its Solare Invitational finals. North American and European teams will face off in the 3v3 tournament in the equalized arena.
