Pax Dei’s developers have shared some more details about the upcoming “Proving Grounds” update’s changes in a new post, including to crafting and gathering systems as well as some loot mechanics. They’ve been trickling out details about the update slowly, with the removal of some items being the most recent brief but important announcement.
Firstly, anti-griefing looting changes will take place for PvE scenarios. Instead of loot being free-for-all, even within a party, “ loot permissions will be assigned based on the players or party who inflicted the most damage since the NPC’s last behavior reset,” the post explains. “This means the group or individual responsible for the highest amount of damage will gain temporary access to loot the corpse.”
Recently, Pax Dei announced a new “Journal” feature for this update that’ll help players keep track of crafting and gathering progress and recipes. With these systems being so key to the game, it’s likely a welcome addition, though this update also has more changes to them as well.
Resource gathering will see some major changes thanks to community feedback and bug reporting. Chopping and mining will be simplified to only require one click to initiate, removing some issues that involve workarounds, and upcoming melee targeting changes will ensure it’s actually easy to do so. Plus, higher proficiencies in Mining and Woodcutting will improve damage done in these processes, speeding up the process.
Skinning will also be its own skill, though this means players have to work through it from scratch instead of it being a subskill within Leatherworking.
On the subject of resources, the distribution of resources across the Pax Dei world will be changed with this wipe, which is a normal thing going forward.
“As previously mentioned, the world has been resculpted, its geography has been changed, and the biomes have been redistributed,” it’s explained. “The resources will be redistributed to follow the biomes' progression alongside PvE progression.” For PvP-core players, Lyonesse will still have the heaviest concentration of pure iron nodes.
Plus, the update promises three more pieces of “easy to unlock” magic gear for the early game, plus “several significant changes to crafting, bringing more structure to the progression of resources you use and ensuring professions align with that structure.”
